Blockboard is composed of at least two surface veneers and a core consisting of 7 – 30 mm wide battens, which may, or may not, be adhesive-bonded.
Blockboard is relatively lightweight. It is easy to veneer and machine with all known woodworking tools and –machinery. In furniture, it is used for large-surface, self-supporting components, such as door leaves, drawer bottoms, or parts of the supporting frames. In interior furnishings, it is used for cladding, fitted cabinets, and door leaves. In the construction sector, these panels are equipped with a special surface finish and then used as large-surface shuttering boards for concrete constructions.
